Premium Hardwood Panels

The ApplePly Story

ApplePly® is the popular, premium hardwood core invented by States Industries. Like all States’ substrates, ApplePly can be fully customized, including thickness and length, face and back veneers, finishes and machining options.

Though there are many imitators, there’s only one original ApplePly!

Attractive Edge Detail

ApplePly’s uniformly thin plies of light-colored Birch give it a visually attractive, solid edge that doesn’t require edge banding. The strong pattern of the edge is often used as a primary design element.

A History of Superior Craftmanship

Originally introduced in 1984, ApplePly® immediately became the premier panel of choice for high-end professional installations. Since then, it has continued to gain followers including architects, designers, furniture makers and other craftsmen. ApplePly is famous for its eye-catching edge, which is frequently used as a primary design element in furniture, fixtures and architectural installations.

Accolades and Applications

ApplePly’s attractive edge has been a featured design element in major retailers including GAP, Nike, Body Shop and Children’s Place. It has been selected for furniture design classes at The Rhode Island School of Design, Savannah College of Art and Design and Appalachian State University, and it can be found in applications as diverse as drawer sides and telescopes.

Construction Details

ApplePly is constructed from 1/16″ Birch innerplies using a two-step lamination process and no added urea-formaldehyde adhesive. Innerplies are first assembled into a core blank and size sanded to a metered tolerance before being overlaid with selected face and back veneers.

This process insures a solid, smooth and flat product and eliminates telegraphing of imperfections in the core. The all-hardwood construction machines beautifully without tear-out or burn. Because of its machinability, ApplePly is often substituted for solid wood.

ApplePly is made with soy and phenolic adhesives. Birch inner plies are imported from Poland or Russia; the product is manufactured in Eugene, Oregon.

Environmental

ApplePly is constructed without the use of urea-formaldehyde adhesives. It exceeds CARB 93120.12 and qualifies for LEED IEQ Credit 4.4 for Low Emitting Materials. Similarly, ApplePly is typically constructed from FSC Certified inner plies, but you must specify FSC Certified material to receive proper documentation.
